The Family Psychology course in the Psychology S1 study program holds a guest lecture on Sunday, June 7, 2020 through Google Meet. The event began at 9:00 WIB and lasted for approximately 2 hours, namely the initial exposure for 40 minutes and a discussion session for 60 minutes. In this guest lecture discussing “Positive Communication in the Family” with the speaker is Dr. Riana Mashar, Psychologist. Lecturer at Ahmad Dahlan University and moderated by Muhammad Fibiyan Aflah, student of Family Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology, UMS. The guest lecture was attended by approximately 75 participants from a number of Family Psychology classes that were taught by Ms. Lusi Nuryanti, PhD., Psychologists and students outside the class. The speaker explained some material about establishing or forming positive communication within the family related to parent and child relationships. There are a number of core concerns in the discussion: positive communication is built through the development of effective communication in children which is done by solving emotional problems first, building closeness, maturing the senses to understand the child’s condition, always being flexible, focusing on the purpose of the message. Thereafter coupled to form positive communication by giving a lot of appreciation for the good things done, become role models in kindness, provide an explanation if the child does not understand, and do not hesitate to be an active listener, also adjust verbal and non-verbal language because not to the expression of emotions are more captured by children than the message itself.

In his interview, Muhammad Fibiyan Aflah as the moderator of the Family Psychology guest lecture said “From this guest lecture, there are many benefits because the speakers are not from UMS and are indeed experts in the field so that we gain wider insight even with different perspectives, it would be better things like this are mostly done in other subjects as well, “he concluded.
